Ballet opens; The Shoemaker
Enter the Girl
The Shoemaker waits for his prey
The Girl wants the red shoes
Dressed in her new red shoes the Girl leaves for the carnival
She dances the night away
But she soon grows weary
The Shoemaker captures the Girl. The red shoes never tire.
She dances through a wasteland
She dances with a newspaper
She meets horrific images
Later she sees what her life could have been like.
A dance with a dream lover.
The dream dance continues. Birds of fancy.
The Girl and the Shoemaker struggle.
She begs the Priest to take off the red shoes.
He does and she dies.
