The Powell & Pressburger Pages

Dedicated to the work of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger and all the other people, both actors and technicians who helped them make those wonderful films.

A lot of the documents have been sent to me or have come from other web sites. The name of the web site is given where known. If I have unintentionally included an image or document that is copyrighted or that I shouldn't have done then please email me and I'll remove it.

I make no money from this site, it's purely for the love of the films.

"Michael Powell's Edwardian Canterbury"

Paul Tritton [Author of 'A Canterbury Tale' - Memories of a classic wartime movie] is working on a book based on Michael Powell's early life, for publication in 2005.

Entitled "Michael Powell's Edwardian Canterbury" the book will feature 'then and now' photographs of his birthplace in Bekesbourne and the many places in the city and local countryside that he described so vividly in "A Life in Movies".

Paul is pictured here with Thelma Schoonmaker Powell, Michael's widow, when they met recently in New York to discuss the project and to select, for the book's opening chapter, photographs of Michael when he was a schoolboy.

Paul would also like to hear from anyone who may have photographs of Michael when he visited Canterbury in 1979 for a Gala Performance of "A Canterbury Tale"; in 1984 to receive an honorary degree from the University of Kent; and in 1986, as a guest of honour at a screening of "I Know Where I'm Going!"
