Dedicated to the work of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger and all the other people, both actors and technicians who helped them make those wonderful films. A lot of the documents have been sent to me or have come from other web sites. The name of the web site is given where known. If I have unintentionally included an image or document that is copyrighted or that I shouldn't have done then please email me and I'll remove it. I make no money from this site, it's purely for the love of the films. [Any comments are by me (Steve Crook) and other members of the email list] |
Fascinating trivia (and any goofs) connected with the film
- The title was (briefly) changed by MGM for the US release to The Great Spy Mission because they thought that having the word Operation in the title may make people think it was a medical film, a genre that wasn't doing well at the box-office at the time.
- When the first doodlebug (V1) falls on London, the cooling towers of a modern power plant are visible in the top left hand side of the screen.
- The test pilot, Hannah Reitsch, (played by Barbara Rütting) shown in the film was a real test pilot for the Luftwaffe. Hate her politics but you have to admire her bravery and skill. She really did fly a version of the V-1 fitted with a cockpit. See biography pages.
